Galil Twisters 7 ReMax-Ra"anana 0

On Monday, in a strange ending, the Twisters were leading ReMax 18-5 going into the last inning when a Ra"anana player disappeared causing the game to be forfeited because they didn"t have nine players.  The Twisters scored eight in the first and six in the second and were never threatened.  Bill Arscott pitched well and the Twisters centerfielder Micah Winston and rightfielder Eitan Milgram each had five put-outs with Milgram making a beautiful sliding catch on one. Winston, 4-4 with a 3-run homer and Milgram, 2-4 with a monstrous triple were also the offensive stars for the Northerners.  Pitcher Dave Leichman was 2-3, as was his son, Alon who smached a long RBI triple for ReMax.

Shimshon Hi Tech 13 Dawgs 3

On Tuesday, the sleeping Dawgs lay down until it was too late.  Shimshon Hi Tech had a 13-3 lead going into the 7th inning but the Dawgs rallied to within 14-8 with 2 outs in the bottem of the 7th when the lights at Kibbutz Gezer went out reverting the score to 13-3.  Rafi Goldmeier was the offensive star of the game going 3-4 with four runs scored and Joel Schnitzler added adouble and a triple. For the Dawgs, Dani Machlis homered and Michael Moronov hit a 3-run triple off of pitcher Sholom Merorah who hurled a fine game for Shimshon Hi Tech allowing only one walk.

Week 3 - Twisters Post Second Straight Shutout

In Israel Softball Association action last week, the Galil Twisters improved to 2-0 with their second straight shutout - a 25-0 white-washing of the Dawgs.  Also, Shimshon Hi Tech defeated the Galil Dustdevils 17-10

Galil Twisters 25 Dawgs 0

On Tuesday, Bill Arscott and Kobi Daya combined for the shutout, striking out seven, scattering four hits and walking none while the Twisters offense scored at least three runs in every inning.  Yoni Weiss was 4-5 with two inside-the-park homers, five RBI"s and four runs scored, Allan Paderson was 4-5 in his league debut and Micah Winston had three hits, four RBI"s and preserved the shutout by throwing out Robert Even (2-2 on the night) at home.

Shimshon Hi Tech 17 Galil Dustdevils 10

On Thursday, Jeff Mor had five hits and four RBI"s, one the go-ahead run in a 5-run fourth and Shem-Tov Shapiro (six strikeouts, two walks) pitched effectively as Shimshon Hi Tech held off the feisty Northern youth team.  The Dustdevils pulled within
10-8 after five but shaky defense never was their eventual downfall.  Jed Ben Nahum pitched well, striking out two and walking three in six innings, Nogos Vosia was 3-3 with a triple and Itai Wisell hit a 2-run homer for the youngsters.  Baruch Tannenbaum was 4-5 with four runs and Martin Cardoso was 3-4 with a diving catch in right field for Beit Shemesh.  Highlight of the game occurred in the fifth when Shimshon Hi Tech Ari Shapiro hit a smash to deep left field which was dropped by left fielder Yaakov Tamasgan but caught by centerfielder Natan Tamari who had alertly backed up the play.

Week 2 - Dustdevils Stun Dawgs

In the Israel Softball Association"s Babe Gillett Memorial Fall Tournament"s second week of play the Galil Dusdevils stunned the Dawgs 9-6 and Penticon defeated Shimshon Hi Tech 15-4.

Penticon 15 Shimshon Hi Tech 4

Pitcher Gadi Bossin made his debut with Penticon versus his old team and pitched well, fanning five and holding Shimshon Hi Tech scoreless until the sixth. Bossin was backed by solid defense, inducing many fly balls to right fielder Brian Aron and left fielder Ehud Mayerfeld.  The Penticon offense scored in every inning against hurler Shalom Menorah, and put the game out of reach with a big 7-run fourth with Ron Solomon"s 3-run homer the big blow. Stud Schrader"s 3-run homer in the bottom of the sixth was the Beit Shemesh team"s lone bright spot.

Galil Dustdevils 9 Dawgs 6

The Northerner"s youth team, playing only its second league game combined accurate pitching, solid defense, timely hitting and blazing team speed to surprise the Dawgs for their first ever win.  Jed Ben-Nahum pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing four hits and six runs, only two of them earned, and helped himself with a key 2-run double off losing pitcher Daniel Baram.  Avishai Gross was a vacuum cleaner at shortstop, having a hand in almost half the defensive outs for the Dustdevils.  Itai Wisell knocked in three runs, including the go-ahead run on a bunt single in the 3-run third and made sparkling defensive plays behind the plate and at third base.  With the Dawgs threatening in the bottom of the fifth and last inning, Gal Haziza relieved and loaded the bases before inducing Shmuel Goldstein, the winning run at the plate, who had already reached base three times, scored two and knocked in another two, to line to centerfield where Natan Tamari made a sliding catch to end the game.

Week 1 - Softball Fall Tournament Under Way

The Israel Softball Association"s Babe Gillett Memorial Fall Tournament got under way this past week with six of the seven men"s teams seeing action.  The tournament is a 6-game per team round robin with a Final to be played on November 2nd between the top two teams.  The Tigers began opened the week with a 23-1 destruction of the Dawgs, Shimshon Hi Tech downed ReMax-Ra"anana 11-4 and the Galil Twisters blanked their youth team, the Galil Dustdevils 23-0. Defending champs Penticon had a bye and will begin their title defense this week.

Tigers 23 Dawgs 1

Goose Gillett and Mike Williams combined to silence the Dawgs" bats and the Tiger offense roughed up hurler Daniel Baram in a 10-run first en route to an easy win. Alberto Sciosia was 3-5 with a home run, and Avi Shamir drove in three runs with a double and triple to lead the Tiger offense.  Gil Nehamkin sparkled on defense at shortstop and Gil Siegel nailed a runner at home with a great throw from right field to end the game.  David Sommer knocked an RBI double for the Dawgs.

Shimshon Hi Tech 11  ReMax-Ra"anana 4

Sholom Menorah struck out six while walking only three in a complete game victory for Shimshon Hi Tech who played fine team defense.  For the Beit Shemesh offense, Jeff Mor had a double and a triple, Jordy Alter rapped three hits, Joel Schnitzler rocked a monster 2-run double off the fence, and Betzalel Escott had two hits in his ISA debut. Neil Eisenstadt made several fine plays on defense at first base.

Galil Twisters 23 Galil Dustdevils 0

The Twisters spawned a youth team for the Fall Tournament and gave the youngsters a proper spanking in their first game.  Newcomer Yoni Weiss pitched four no-hit innings and Yaniv Rosenfeld drove in nine runs with a 3-run homer and a grand slam in the romp.  The Twisters took advantage of 16 walks while scoring seven in the second and 13 in the third.  Rob Barasch doubled and tripled and Jeffrey Zitomer and Don Weintraub each scored four runs.  Nogos Vosia broke up the no-hitter with a single in the fifth off of relief pitcher Rosenfeld. Catcher Avishai Gross and center fielder Natan Tamari were excellent on defense for the Dustdevils

Men’s Final Series - Game 3
(Dimona Mean Judeans vs Penticon)
Penticon repeats as ISA champs
The Israel Softball Association"s 2008 champion was determined over the weekend and Penticon emerged victorious, led by MVP pitcher Ami Baran and a rock-solid defense.
Penticon defeated a spirited Dimona Mean Judean team 5-1 on Sunday night to take the best-of-three series 2-1 in front of 200 fans at the Baptist Village sports complex in Petah Tikva.
Penticon opened the scoring with two runs in the first when Dan Marcus reached on a single and Mark Mayerfeld and Brian Aron hit sharp balls to score Sam Goldberg and Marcus respectively.
Dimona managed its only run in the second after loading up the bases with one out before hitting a pop-fly in the infield to snuff out what looked like it would be a big inning with an interference call.
Penticon sponsor Howie Hirsch hit a towering triple to left in the fourth inning and came home on the errant throw. In the fifth inning, with runners Hirsch and Marcus on second and third, Mark Mayerfeld"s sacrifice fly scored Hirsch and Marcus scampered home as well when the throw got away from the Dimona defense.
Penticon"s tireless pitcher Baran, who struck out eight including striking out the side in the seventh, was declared the series MVP. Baran, amazingly, pitched four games in eight days.
Dimona"s top player for the series was shortstop Elinatan Ben Israel.
Penticon won the championship in 2007 and has reached the finals in eight out of the past 10 years.

Men’s Final Series - Game 2
(Dimona Mean Judeans vs Penticon)
Penticon evens up championship series with a win

Penticon came ready to play against the Mean Judeans of Dimona, taking a 6-2 decision on Thursday night. Ami Baran (9Ks) shut down the Dimona bats, facing only 13 batters in the first four innings. Meanwhile, Penticon took advantage of some infield errors to go up on Dimona 2-0 in the first inning, adding another 4 runs in the 4th. Pitcher Elyaheed Ben Israel gave up the six runs before veteran Yarone Ben Israel came in and shut the door on the Penticon offense. But Penticon had enough runs on the board and Dimona was thwarted by excellent defense, highlighted by catcher Dan Marcus"s cutting down a fast Dimona runner while stealing second base and Brian Aron"s diving catches in right field. Offensively for Penticon, David Aron had a two RBI single in the 4th.

Men’s Final Series - Game 1
(Dimona Mean Judeans vs Penticon)

Dimona Goes Extra to Beat Penticon
In the first game of the Israel Softball Association Finals on Tuesday, the Mean Judeans of Dimona pulled off a 6-3 victory in eight innings over Penticon. A pitching duel between Penticon"s Ami Baran and Elyaheed Ben Israel of Dimona left the score at 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, with Mark Mayerfeld"s triple - the big hit for Penticon. Penticon struck with two runs off of reliever Yarone Ben-Israel on errors to edge ahead 3-2. Dimona tied the game 3-3 in the top half of the seventh when a misplayed fly ball hit by teen Tahby Ben Israel resulted in an inside-the-park home run. In the bottom of the seventh and needing to score only one run to win, Penticon threatened with runners on first and second and no outs. Penticon brought in big gun Baran up to bat. Baran hit a sharp grounder to shortstop Elinatan who tagged the runner and flipped to the second baseman Nativiyah for a nifty double play to quash the rally. A rare triple play would have ensued if Baran hadn"t legged it out to 1st base. In the extra inning, Dimona scored three runs on RBI doubles by Akhaziya Ben Israel & Amikhai Ben Israel, and an RBI single by Tahby but Penticon couldn"t make up the difference in their half of the inning.

Men’s Semi Final Series I - Game 3
(Galil Twisters (Winners of B1vs A4) vs Penticon (1st place))

Penticon Nip Twisters – Head to Finals

In a classic pitchers" duel at the Baptist Village on Sunday, Penticon scored two unearned runs in the sixth and Ami Baran shut down the powerful Galil Twisters offense in a 3-2 victory, earning a trip to the Finals.

Baran and Twister pitcher Bill Arscott matched each other pitch for pitch through four, allowing one run each.  The Northerners got on board in the first when Micah Winston drew a lead-off walk. scampered to third on Jeffrey Zitomer"s single and scored on the front-end of a double steal.  Baran settled down, however and stranded Zitomer at third.  Penticon knotted it at one in the second when Dan Aronovic singled, advanced to third on Mark Mayerfeld"s double and scored on a single by Brian Aron.

Meanwhile, the defenses shone as Aron made a sliding catch in right-field and shortstop Ron Solomon made a nice over-the-shoulder nab of a pop fly in shallow left for Penticon.  All Arscott"s 12 outs were made in the air, two of which were spectacular – a leaping grab by shortstop Yaniv Rosenfeld of a screaming line drive and a running catch by centerfielder Winston at the fence of a drive off the bat of Howie Hirsch who had homered twice in Game 1.

Kobi Daya entered the game to pitch for the Twisters in the fifth and retired Penticon in order, but in the sixth, with his trademark ground-ball inducing sinker working, the defense made two errors on grounders and couldn"t turn an inning-ending double play.  With bases loaded and two outs, Daya issued an RBI walk to Aron scoring Aronovic and then Mayerfeld raced home on a wild pitch for a 3-1 lead.

The Twisters threatened in the seventh when Winston reached on an error, advanced on a sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch, but Baran bore down and whiffed the Twisters top hitter, Rosenfeld with the count full, his fifth of the game, before collapsing on the mound in relief.

Penticon will face off against Dimona on Tuesday and Thursday at 21:00  in the first two games of the Finals

Men’s Semi Final Series I - Game 2
(Galil Twisters (Winners of B1vs A4) vs Penticon (1st place))
Twisters exploit defense to upend Penticon, tie series

The Galil Twisters took advantage Thursday of poor Penticon defense in a big 7-run sixth, and Kobi Daya pitched out of several tough jams as the Twisters tied the Israel Softball Association semifinal series at one apiece with a 13-6 win.

The Twisters came out swinging against Ami Baran, tallying four runs in the first and two in the second - all unearned, as the Ra"anana defense made six errors. Yaniv Rosenfeld"s RBI triple was the big hit in the second. Penticon loaded the bases in the second against Twister hurler Bill Arscott but only managed one run on an RBI groundout by Etai Mayerfeld. Baran settled down to throw three scoreless innings, stranding two runners in each inning.  Advertisement

Kobi Daya relieved for the Northerners in the third and pitched out of a two-on, no-out jam by inducing a 6-3 double play to shortstop Rosenfeld and a strikeout, one of four on the night. Penticon rallied in the fourth, loading the bases on a single and two walks and then scoring three on two errors and a wild pitch before Dan Marcus lined an RBI triple to left and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Daya recuperated, though, allowing only four baserunners in the next three innings while the Twisters opened the floodgates in the bottom of the sixth. Jeffrey Zitomer and Rosenfeld led off with singles. Then, Rosenfeld stole second and both came around on Tomer Molovinsky"s single. Molovinsky advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on Jake Miller"s squeeze bunt which was thrown away, allowing Miller to advance to third. Marc Bodner then relieved the ailing Baran, and the Twisters tacked on three more - two on a single by Tim Cummings.

In the seventh, Daya walked two before Rosenfeld made an outstanding running catch of a soft liner to short left field to seal the victory.

Men’s Semi Final Series II - Game 2
(Tigers (A3) vs Dimona (A2))
Dimona Advance to Finals

The Dimona Mean Judeans advanced to the Israel Softball Association Finals with a convincing 12-3 victory over the Tel Aviv Tigers on Wednesday.

Elyaheed Ben Israel threw six solid innings, striking out six, walking one and allowing only four hits and  Yarone Ben Israel shut the door, fanning a pair in the seventh.  The offense came out with all guns firing in the first off of Tigers hurler Ilan Spira.  Elyaheed doubled in Yarone who had singled, and Ahkaziyah  Ben Israel followed with an RBI double and then scored on Elinatan Ben Israel"s single in a 4-run first.  Dimona tacked on a pair in each of the next two innings and were up 8-0 before the Tigers finally scored on Spira"s RBI triple in the fourth.  Dimona added another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth off of Tigers relief pitcher Goose Gillett while the Tigers offense only managed two more runs.  Elyaheed and Ben Kai Ben Israel had three hits each and Ahkaziyah drove in four runs for the Negev side"s offense.

Men’s Semi Final Series II - Game 1
(Tigers (A3) vs Dimona (A2))
Dimona Draw First Blood

Ben Kai Ben Israel went 4-4 with three runs scored and threw a runner out at third to end the game as the Dimona Mean Judeans took a 1-0 lead in the their sem-final series on Monday with a 7-5 victory over the Tel Aviv Tigers.

Dimona scored one in the first off of starter Goose Gillett when Ben Kai doubled and came around to score on Elyaheed Ben Israel"s single and tacked on two more in the second on Elinatan Ben Israel"s long 2-run sacrifice fly scoring Akhaziyah Ben Israel and Ovade Ben Israel.

The Tigers battled back, closing the gap to 3-2 when two runs scored off of Yarone Ben Israel on passed balls, one after a triple by Alberto Scioscia.  In the fourth, the Tigers tag-team pitching strategy backfired as the Southerners tallied two more off of relief pitcher Mike Williams – Ben Kai again scoring, and single runs in the fifth and sixth off of Ilan Spira.

Down 7-2 in the seventh, the Tigers rallied against new pitcher Elyaheed. Two runs scored on a fielding error and then, with runners on first and third, Mendie Pinchovski laced an RBI single to centerfield.  Ben Kai came up throwing and fired a perfect strike to third baseman Amikhi Ben Israel who applied the tag to runner Eran Kedar for the final out.

Men’s Semi Final Series I - Game 1
(Galil Twisters (Winners of B1vs A4) vs Penticon (1st place))
Penticon Roll In Homer Fest

In the Israel Softball Association semi-finals on Sunday, Penticon smashed five home runs, two by Howie Hirsch en route to a 15-6 victory over the Galil Twisters.

Penticon played small ball while scoring four in the first and tacked on three more in the second on Hirsch"s monstrous 3-run homer off Twister pitcher Bill Arscott.  The Twisters scored one in the second on Roni Gross"s triple and added two more on Tomer Molovinsky"s 2-run single in the third.  Hirsch then smashed a carbon-copy of his previous homer, a solo shot in the fourth.

In the fifth, Benzi Fleitman put on an offensive spectacle, lofting a ball to deep right field.  The relay home arrived before him but as catcher Jeffrey Zitomer tried to tag low, Fleitman performed a perfect swan dive over Zitomer and landed head first on home plate, tagged it with his hand and somersaulted before returning to step on the plate for good measure but not before being tagged by Zitomer.  The home plate umpire called him out, but on appeal, the field umpire ruled that he had initially touched the plate for a 2-run homer.

The oppressive humidity started to take its toll on the pitchers as Arscott and Penticon hurler Ami Baran (six strikeouts, one walk) become more hittable.  Penticon added a pair of 2-run homers, a line drive by the diving Eitan Milgram in right field by Ron Solomon, and a shot over everything in left field by Netanel Levenson, in a 5-run sixth.  Down 15-3, the Northerners rallied against a tiring Baran, scoring three on Yaniv Rosenfeld"s triple and Molovinsky"s home run.

Penticon rapped out 17 hits, four by Levenson and three each by Solomon and Daniel Maddy Weitzman.  For the  Twisters, Rosenfeld and Molovinsky each had three hits.  Game two will be on Thursday.

Thursday June 26 Pre-Playoff Game
Galil Twisters (B1) vs Ziontours (A4 )
Twisters Dominate Ziontours in Play-in Game

The Galil Twisters earned a spot in the Israel Softball Association"s semi-finals by displaying total domination of Ziontours in a 24-1 win Thursday night at the Baptist Village.  The "Play-in" game pitted the top B Pool team, the Twisters and the fourth place A Pool team, Jerusalem"s Ziontours in a one game playoff for the right to play the top A Pool team, Ra"anana"s Penticon in the semi-finals on Sunday.  The Dimona Mean Judeans and the Tel Aviv Tigers will face off on  Monday in the other series.

The Twisters put on a pitching, fielding and hitting clinic from start to finish and never trailed in the game.  Micah Winston led off the top of the first with a walk from Ziontours pitcher Micha Avgar, who was coming off his best performance of the season against Dimona, but never got in a comfort zone, walking 12 Twisters on the night – 11 of whom scored.  Tomer Molovinsky then laid down a sacrifice bunt but was safe on an error while Winston raced around to third base and scored on Yaniv Rosenfeld"s sacrifice fly.

Pitcher Bill Arscott was superb, allowing only three hits and a walk in four innings while fanning two.

In the bottom of the first, Twisters right fielder Eitan Milgram set the defensive tone with a sliding catch of a pop fly on the foul line and the Twisters led 1-0 after one.

In the second they tacked on three more, on Roni Gross"s triple, a wild pitch and Molovinsky"s RBI single.  Twister catcher Jake Miller stifled a Ziontours rally with a diving grab of a popped up bunt in the second after Avgar had singled.

In the third, Milgram led off with a triple, Tim cummings bunted him in and Gross"s RBI single made it a 5-run inning and a 9-0 lead.  The Northerner"s defense again came up big in the third as left fielder Jeffrey Zitomer made a sliding grab of a line drive.

The lid came off in the fourth, as the Twisters batted around twice and the Ziontours defense fell apart in a 15-run inning.  Rob Barasch, Tim Cummings and Gross each smacked 2-run hits in the big inning that sealed the game.

Ziontours relief pitcher Blair Portnoy pitched a 1-2-3 fifth, inducing three ground outs to shortstop Tom Haskell.  Kobi Daya relieved for the Twisters in the fifth and allowed a pair of walks and a run before ending the game with a strikeout.

17-year old Gross finished the night 4-4 with two doubles, a triple, four runs and five RBI"s, six other players had two hits each and Winston and Zitomer scored four times for the relentless Twister offense.  In a statistical quirk, Rosenfeld had an official 0-0 night with four RBI"s (a pair of bases loaded walks and sacrifice flies).

Galil Twisters 20 Dawgs 11
On Monday, in a rare father-son pitching matchup, the Twisters" 16 year old pitcher Kobi Daya scattered 3 hits
in 4 innings, while striking out 4, walking 1 and allowing 1 unearned run to best father Shaul who yielded 5
home runs, including 3 by Yaniv Rosenfeld.  The Twisters scored 12 in the fourth and led 19-1 before the
Dawgs added 5 runs in each of the last 2 innings off of relief pitchers.  Rosenfeld finished 4-4 with 6 RBI"s
and a team record 3 home runs, 2 of which cleared the fence.  Tomer Molovinsky added 4 hits, missing the
cycle by a triple and driving in 5 runs and Micah Winston hit a 2-run homer.  Right fielder Jeffrey Zitomer made
a beautiful diving catch to stifle a Dawgs rally.  For the Shfela team, Maor Mama and Shmuel Goldstein each
had a pair of hits and Daniel Baram drove in 3 and made a fine diving stop at third base.

Week Ending 23/5/08

Penticon 17 Shimshon Hi Tech 0

On Sunday, Penticon pitcher Ami Baran was dominant, striking out 8 while allowing

lead but used the long ball as well. Daniel Maddy homered, scored  4 runs and drove

in 5, Ron Solomon tripled and Dan Marcus doubled. Shimshon Hi Tech"s lone bright

spot was left fielder Elie Wildman who made several nice catches.

Galil Twisters 14 Dawgs 4

On Monday, Dawgs pitcher Shmuel Goldstein held the Twisters bats in check thru 4

innings, trailing only 6-4 before the Northerners exploded for 6 in the 5th.  Twisters

pitcher Kobi Daya struggled to find the strike zone, walking 10, but allowed only 4

soft hits and shut the Dawgs out from the third inning on. Roni Gross led the Galil

offense going 3-4 with a  home run and 4 RBI"s and Rob Barasch also homered to

start the big 5th inning.  Daniel Baram made several nice plays at third base for the

home run by catcher Gil Siegel.  Penticon followed with 3 runs in the second and in

another 5 runs in the third.  Ziontours pitchers, Jeremy Shai and Micha Avgar, pitched

well but were let down by shoddy defense.  On offense for Penticon, Dan Aronovic

the 3rd.  Mario Lopez clocked a 2-run homer over the fence for the Cerveceros.

Week Ending 16/5/08

Dawgs 12 Shimshon Hi Tech 11

On Sunday, Shimshon Hi Tech jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first against

pitcher Shmuel Goldstein.  However, the Dawgs defense settled down and the

offense battled back, with catcher Jeff Weiner"s big 3-run double putting them

back into the game.  In the extra inning, Shimshon pushed a run across, but

the Dawgs threatened with runners at second and third. An RBI groundout by

Yaakov Mandel tied it and when Beit Shemesh botched the ensuing run-

down, with a  controversial umpire call involved, Robert Even remained safe

at third and then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch by Gadi Bossin.

Catcher Jordy Alter had 2 hits and reached base 4 times for Shimshon Hi

Tech and teen Maor Mama was superb at shortstop for the Dawgs.

Cerveceros 10 Ziontours 9

pitched well but were victimized by poor defense behind them. Blair Portnoy

scored 3 runs for Ziontours.

Galil Twisters 14 ReMax-Ra"anana 7

On Monday, the Galil Twisters had little trouble with ReMax-Ra"anana, leading

2/3 innings, Rob Barasch was 3-4 with 3 runs, 3 RBI"s and homer, Micah

Winston was 3-4 with 4 runs scored and Tim Cummings drove in 3 for the

Northerners.  Ilan Susskind had 3 hits and scored twice for ReMax.

Taking advantage of an inexperience firstbaseman, Penticon bunted it way to a 4-run second. After another
run in the 3rd, Penticon broke it open with a 6-run fifth, book-ended by triples from Ron Solomon and Dan Aronovic
and poor Twister defense. Pitcher Kobi Daya settled down to pitch 2 scoreless innings while his teammates
mounted a comeback. Rob Barasch"s RBI double made it 11-3 in the 5th and then Micah Winston mashed a
3-run homer over the CF fence off of Ami Baran (5 K"s, 1 BB) to make it 11-7 but the Northerners couldn"t score
in the 7th. Sam Goldberg was 3-4 with 3 runs for Penticon

in admirably on the mound and Spira relieved for 2 innings.

Dimona 6 Penticon 4

On Tuesday, Dimona jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a lead-off home run
by Ovade Ben Israel and never
lost the lead. Yarone Ben Israel (5 strikeouts)
outpitched Ami Baran (7 strikeouts), surviving a last-ditch
Penticon rally.  In the seventh, after scoring one to close the gap 6-4 on an RBI single by Etai Mayerfeld,
Penticon had runners on second and third with one out, but couldn’t push the tying runs across.

Tigers 17 Cerveceros 8
On Sunday, the Tigers welcomed back Ilan Spira who bashed a 3-run homer in the easy win.  Pitcher Goose Gillett helped his own cause with a 4-4 evening and Guy Bender was 2-3 with 4 runs scored.

Shimshon Hi Tech 22 Dawgs 4
On Monday, Shimshon Hi Tech started slowly but their offense eventually came around, led by the power
hitting of catcher Stu Shrader who singled, tripled and mashed a home run over the new left field fence at
Kibbutz Gezer.  Rafi Goldmeier had 3 singles,  3 runs scored and 4 RBI’s against Dawgs slow pitcher
Shaul Daya.  The defensive play of the game was by 2nd baseman Baruch Tannenbaum ranged into short
right field to nab a looper.  Sholom Menorah pitched effectively for the Beit Shemesh team and also legged
out 2 infield hits.  For the Dawgs, Yigal Rozval hit a three-run home run, and soldier Michael Moronov tripled.

Galil Twisters 24 Cerveceros 5
On Tuesday, the B Pool Galil Twisters raced out to a 16-0 lead after 2 innings over the undermanned B Pool
Cerveceros and then cruised to any easy 24-5 victory.  Micah Winston led the Twisters offense going 4-4 with
a triple and 4 RBI’s, while Tomer Molovinsky was 3-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in 4. Natan Tamari was
3-4 with a triple and 3 RBI’s and Avishai Gross was 2-2 with 4 runs scored.  Kobi Daya allowed 3 runs in 4
innings while striking out 4 while Cerveceros pitcher Yosi Ajzenwaser pitched well but suffered from lack of
defensive support as numerous fly balls fell or were dropped behind him.  Bali Bali and Bernardo Esquivel each
tripled for the Cerveceros.

Ziontours 15 ReMax-Ra"anana 7
On Wednesday, Ziontours’ Jeremy Shai turned in his second straight solid performance for Ziontours to beat
veteran ReMax-Ra’anana southpaw Dave Leichman.  Tom Haskell and Noam Zwilling each banged out a pair
of hits for Ziontours.  For ReMax, Leichman twice followed hits by son Alon with hits of his own.

Week Ending 18/4/08

Cerveceros 16 Ziontours 6
On Sunday, The Cerveceros came roaring out of the gate, scoring 6 in the first with Alberto Tascher
hitting a 2-run home run and Hernan Guinguis smacking an RBI double. After a 4-spot in the 2nd, the
Latin American team had an unassailable 10-3 lead and coasted to victory. Pitcher Yehezkel Ganz
coaxed numerous fly ball outs in outpitching a wild Jeremy Shai. Guinguis and Tascher were the
hitting stars, the former falling a triple short of the cycle while knocking in 3 runs and the latter
banging 2 home runs with 3 RBI"s. Micha Avgar was 4-4 for Ziontours.

Shimshon Hi Tech 20 ReMax-Ra"anana 18
On Sunday, ReMax jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead against Shimshon Hi Tech hurler Sholom Menorah.
However, the Beit Shemesh bats caught fire against David Leichman, with Zvi Wolicki driving in the
go-ahead runs and Shem-Tov Shapiro followed with a 3-run triple to extend the lead.  Down 20-12 in
the last inning, ReMax made a valiant comeback as Alon Leichman launched a grand slam home run
and Russel Schaber"s fourth hit of the night made it 20-18 but Menorah managed to shut the door with
the tying runs on base.  Shapiro had a great night, reaching base 4 times and making several sparkling
plays at shortstop.

Penticon 19 Cerveceros 12
On Wednesday, Penticon faced the the Latin team without top pitcher Ami Baran as second-string
pitcher Marc Bodner minimized the damage while his teammates feasted on Yosi Ajzenwaser"s pitching.
Penticon broke a 2-2 tie with a 6-run second and never looked back.  For Penticon, catcher Dan Marcus
had 2 triples and nailed a runner stealing third, and Sam Goldberg and Brian Aron each rapped 4 hits,
with the former driving in 3 and the latter stealing 3 bases and scoring 4 times.  The Cerveceros were led
by Bali Bali who singled, doubled and tripled, Elias Mizraji (home run, 3 runs) and Ozias Kaim
(2 doubles, 3 runs).
Ziontours 4 Tigers 3
On Wednesday, the game started late due to unforeseen transportaiton issues on the part of Ziontours.
When it finally began, the teams played 5 tight innings.  Ziontours" Jeremy Shai pitched his best game
of the season and Tigers" Goose Gillett matched him pitch for pitch. The Tigers took a 3-1 lead into the
fifth, in part due to Venezuelan debutante, Alberto Sciocia"s 3 hits.  However, a costly dropped fly ball by
the Tigers defense put a runner on board.  With the score 3-2 and bases loaded, Blair Portnoy fell into an
0-2 hole and then sprayed a blooper to short right-field for a game-winning 2-run single.
Dimona Mean Judeans 22 Dawgs 5
On Tuesday, Dimona took advantage of the Dawgs slow pitching to lay down bunt after bunt en route to
a 9-run first inning that essentially ended the contest.

Week Ending 11/4/08

Cerveceros 20 Dawgs 5
On Wednesday, the Dawgs pulled out to a 5-4 lead after 3 innings on a 2-run single by Shaul Daya
and a 2-run triple by Shmuel Goldstein. However, the Cerveceros bats broke it open with a big 9-run
fourth off of Daya. Ozias Kaim tied the game with a solo home run and then Climmy Reynolds" 2-run
double put them in the lead for good while pitcher Yehezkel Ganz settled down to throw 3 shutout innings.
Red-hot Alberto Tascher homered for the second game in a row and added 2 more hits and 3 RBI"s while
scoring 4 times to lead the Cerveceros offense. David Sommer was a perfect 3-3 for the winless Dawgs.
Galil Twisters 7 Dimona Mean Judeans 3
On Monday, the Galil Twisters earned their second win in a row after losing their first 19 games to Dimona.
The Northerners" young tandem of pitching phenom, Kobi Daya, and shortstop Yaniv Rosenfeld were the
story of the night. Daya was brilliant, fanning 5, walking 6 (2 intentional) and scattering 6 hits, while
pitching out of 2 bases-loaded jams. Rosenfeld put on a hitting clinic, going 3-3 with a pair of doubles
and 3 runs scored. The Twisters scored 2 in the first off of pitcher Yarone Ben Israel, but Dimona tied it
in the second. Elyaeed Ben Israel started the second inning and the Twisters greeted him with a four-run
rally capped by Eitan Milgram"s big 2-run double. Yarone returned in the third, but by then it was too late.
Dimona tacked on a run in the sixth when Akaziah Ben Israel tripled and scored on Elyaeed"s sacrifice fly
but Jeffrey Zitomer"s leaping catch in left-field stifled the rally.
 Penticon 22 ReMax-Ra"anana 8
On Tuesday, the Penticon bats came alive from the get-go, scoring 5 in the top of the first and never looking back. Ami Baran (5 strikeouts) lasted 4 innings and relief pitcher, Marc Bodner limited the ReMax-Ra"anana scoring to one rally. The Penticon defense behind their pitchers was stellar with right-fielder Ron Solomon making 4 running catches and third-baseman Netanel Levenson snagging a sharp line drive to squelch a Ra"anana uprising. Penticon was led by Howie Hirsch who was 4-5 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 6 RBI"s,  and David Aron who was 5-6 with a home run, 3 runs and 3 RBI"s. Alain Serels had a 2-run single for ReMax.

Tigers 22 Shimshon Hi Tech 12
On Monday, Shimshon Hi Tech jumped out to a 6-2 lead but poor fielding let them down as the Tiger offense sprayed balls freely to the outfield. Guy Bender legged out 2 home runs for the Tigers and Shlomi Mor Hayim, Joey Cohen and Gil Nehamkin each rapped 4 hits a piece for the potent Tigers offense, but the star of the night was Goose Gillett who struck out 6 and added a 3-3 night at the plate to support his own cause. For Beit Shemesh, Rafi Goldmeir had a pair of hits and 4 RBI"s and made 2 nice catches in centerfield and Lavey Freedman chimed in with 2 hits.
