On Sunday, Penticon pitcher Ami Baran was dominant, striking out 8 while allowing only one hit by Rafi Goldmeir. Penticon took advantage of some small ball to build a lead but used the long ball as well. Daniel Maddy homered, scored 4 runs and drove in 5, Ron Solomon tripled and Dan Marcus doubled. Shimshon Hi Tech"s lone bright spot was left fielder Elie Wildman who made several nice catches.
Galil Twisters 14 Dawgs 4
On Monday, Dawgs pitcher Shmuel Goldstein held the Twisters bats in check thru 4 innings, trailing only 6-4 before the Northerners exploded for 6 in the 5th. Twisters pitcher Kobi Daya struggled to find the strike zone, walking 10, but allowed only 4 soft hits and shut the Dawgs out from the third inning on. Roni Gross led the Galil offense going 3-4 with a home run and 4 RBI"s and Rob Barasch also homered to start the big 5th inning. Daniel Baram made several nice plays at third base for the Dawgs and Robert Even hauled in 3 long drives in centerfield.

On Tuesday, Penticon, led by the pitching of Ami Baran and solid hitting from the entire lineup, brushed off Ziontours with a victory at Gezer. Penticon started the evening with a run in the top half of the first and Ziontours answered with a solo home run by catcher Gil Siegel. Penticon followed with 3 runs in the second and in another 5 runs in the third. Ziontours pitchers, Jeremy Shai and Micha Avgar, pitched well but were let down by shoddy defense. On offense for Penticon, Dan Aronovic was 2-4 with a double and drove in 3, Howie Hirsch, Ron Solomon and Daniel Maddy each tripled, and the latter made a nifty sliding catch in centerfield.
Tigers 25 Cerveceros 9
On Tuesday, Tigers, sparked by the return of Ilan Spira, exploded for 25 runs in 5 innings against pitcher Yosi Ajzenwaser, scoring 11 in the first and never looking back. Spira was 3-5 with 2 home runs over the fence and 6 RBI"s, Mendie Pinchovski was 4-5, lacking only a homer for the cycle, Gilad Lazar had 3 hits, runs and RBI"s, and Guy Bender rapped 4 hits and scored 4 runs for the relentless Tiger offense. Goose Gillett pitched well for two innings before being relieved by Mike Williams in the 3rd. Mario Lopez clocked a 2-run homer over the fence for the Cerveceros.

On Sunday, Shimshon Hi Tech jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first againstpitcher Shmuel Goldstein. However, the Dawgs defense settled down and the offense battled back, with catcher Jeff Weiner"s big 3-run double putting them back into the game. In the extra inning, Shimshon pushed a run across, but the Dawgs threatened with runners at second and third. An RBI groundout by Yaakov Mandel tied it and when Beit Shemesh botched the ensuing run-down, with a controversial umpire call involved, Robert Even remained safe at third and then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch by Gadi Bossin. Catcher Jordy Alter had 2 hits and reached base 4 times for Shimshon Hi Tech and teen Maor Mama was superb at shortstop for the Dawgs.

On Sunday, the Cerveceros rallied from a 9-6 deficit in the final frame. CarlosHidalgo-Grass started the inning with one of his 3 hits on the night, followed by RBI doubles from Saul Kaim and Albert Tascher. With the score tied at 9, Bali Bali nailed the game-winning hit. Cerveceros" Yehezkel Ganz (4 hits allowed, 2 walks) and Ziontours" Jeremy Shai (6 strikeouts, 2 walks) both pitched well but were victimized by poor defense behind them. Blair Portnoy scored 3 runs for Ziontours.

On Monday, the Galil Twisters had little trouble with ReMax-Ra"anana, leading14-3 after 6 innings and avoiding a blow-out by running into 5 outs on the basepaths. Bill Arscott was magnificent, allowing only 5 hits and 1 walk in 6 2/3 innings, Rob Barasch was 3-4 with 3 runs, 3 RBI"s and homer, Micah Winston was 3-4 with 4 runs scored and Tim Cummings drove in 3 for theNortherners. On Tuesday, Penticon batted around to score 7 runs in the 4th inning to put the game out of reach. Dan Marcus led the offense, going 5-5, Daniel Maddy hit 2 home runs and Howie Hirsch added one. Ami Baran whiffed 7 for the win. For the Tigers, Gil Nehamkin went 3-4 with a triple and 3 RBI"s and Avi Shamir was 2-2 and made several nice catches in left field.

On Wednesday, Yarone Ben Israel turned in his second stellar performance of the week, fanning 13 and walking none in 6 innings. The Cerveceros actually held a 6-2 lead after 4 innings but Dimona put up 5 in the fifth against hurler Yehezkel Ganz and then tacked on another 7 in the 6th. Elyaeed Ben Israel scored 4 runs for Dimona and Ozias Kaim was 2-3 with 2 runs for the Cerveceros.

On Monday, the B Pool Twisters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st on a 2-run single by Tomer Molovinsky. Taking advantage of an inexperience firstbaseman, Penticon bunted it way to a 4-run second. After another run in the 3rd, Penticon broke it open with a 6-run fifth, book-ended by triples from Ron Solomon and Dan Aronovic and poor Twister defense. Pitcher Kobi Daya settled down to pitch 2 scoreless innings while his teammates mounted a comeback. Rob Barasch"s RBI double made it 11-3 in the 5th and then Micah Winston mashed a 3-run homer over the CF fence off of Ami Baran (5 K"s, 1 BB) to make it 11-7 but the Northerners couldn"t score in the 7th. Sam Goldberg was 3-4 with 3 runs for Penticon.

Ilan Spira and Alberto Sciocia hit 2-run homers, the former over the fence and the latter inside-the-park, but it wasn"t enough for the Tigers who were without starting pitcher Goose Gillett. Mike Williams filled in admirably on the mound and Spira relieved for 2 innings.

On Tuesday, Dimona jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a lead-off home run by Ovade Ben Israel and never lost the lead. Yarone Ben Israel (5 strikeouts) outpitched Ami Baran (7 strikeouts), surviving a last-ditch Penticon rally. In the seventh, after scoring one to close the gap 6-4 on an RBI single by Etai Mayerfeld, Penticon had runners on second and third with one out, but couldn’t push the tying runs across.

On Sunday, the Tigers welcomed back Ilan Spira who bashed a 3-run homer in the easy win. Pitcher Goose Gillett helped his own cause with a 4-4 evening and Guy Bender was 2-3 with 4 runs scored.

On Monday, Shimshon Hi Tech started slowly but their offense eventually came around, led by the power hitting of catcher Stu Shrader who singled, tripled and mashed a home run over the new left field fence at Kibbutz Gezer. Rafi Goldmeier had 3 singles, 3 runs scored and 4 RBI’s against Dawgs slow pitcher Shaul Daya. The defensive play of the game was by 2nd baseman Baruch Tannenbaum ranged into short right field to nab a looper. Sholom Menorah pitched effectively for the Beit Shemesh team and also legged out 2 infield hits. For the Dawgs, Yigal Rozval hit a three-run home run, and soldier Michael Moronov tripled.

On Tuesday, the B Pool Galil Twisters raced out to a 16-0 lead after 2 innings over the undermanned B Pool Cerveceros and then cruised to any easy 24-5 victory. Micah Winston led the Twisters offense going 4-4 with a triple and 4 RBI’s, while Tomer Molovinsky was 3-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in 4. Natan Tamari was 3-4 with a triple and 3 RBI’s and Avishai Gross was 2-2 with 4 runs scored. Kobi Daya allowed 3 runs in 4 innings while striking out 4 while Cerveceros pitcher Yosi Ajzenwaser pitched well but suffered from lack of defensive support as numerous fly balls fell or were dropped behind him. Bali Bali and Bernardo Esquivel each tripled for the Cerveceros.

On Wednesday, Ziontours’ Jeremy Shai turned in his second straight solid performance for Ziontours to beat veteran ReMax-Ra’anana southpaw Dave Leichman. Tom Haskell and Noam Zwilling each banged out a pair of hits for Ziontours. For ReMax, Leichman twice followed hits by son Alon with hits of his own.

On Sunday, The Cerveceros came roaring out of the gate, scoring 6 in the first with Alberto Tascher hitting a 2-run home run and Hernan Guinguis smacking an RBI double. After a 4-spot in the 2nd, the Latin American team had an unassailable 10-3 lead and coasted to victory. Pitcher Yehezkel Ganz coaxed numerous fly ball outs in outpitching a wild Jeremy Shai. Guinguis and Tascher were the hitting stars, the former falling a triple short of the cycle while knocking in 3 runs and the latter banging 2 home runs with 3 RBI"s. Micha Avgar was 4-4 for Ziontours.
Shimshon Hi Tech 20 ReMax-Ra"anana 18
On Sunday, ReMax jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead against Shimshon Hi Tech hurler Sholom Menorah. However, the Beit Shemesh bats caught fire against David Leichman, with Zvi Wolicki driving in the go-ahead runs and Shem-Tov Shapiro followed with a 3-run triple to extend the lead. Down 20-12 in the last inning, ReMax made a valiant comeback as Alon Leichman launched a grand slam home run and Russel Schaber"s fourth hit of the night made it 20-18 but Menorah managed to shut the door with the tying runs on base. Shapiro had a great night, reaching base 4 times and making several sparkling plays at shortstop.

On Wednesday, Penticon faced the the Latin team without top pitcher Ami Baran as second-string pitcher Marc Bodner minimized the damage while his teammates feasted on Yosi Ajzenwaser"s pitching. Penticon broke a 2-2 tie with a 6-run second and never looked back. For Penticon, catcher Dan Marcus had 2 triples and nailed a runner stealing third, and Sam Goldberg and Brian Aron each rapped 4 hits, with the former driving in 3 and the latter stealing 3 bases and scoring 4 times. The Cerveceros were led by Bali Bali who singled, doubled and tripled, Elias Mizraji (home run, 3 runs) and Ozias Kaim (2 doubles, 3 runs).

On Wednesday, the game started late due to unforeseen transportaiton issues on the part of Ziontours. When it finally began, the teams played 5 tight innings. Ziontours" Jeremy Shai pitched his best game of the season and Tigers" Goose Gillett matched him pitch for pitch. The Tigers took a 3-1 lead into the fifth, in part due to Venezuelan debutante, Alberto Sciocia"s 3 hits. However, a costly dropped fly ball by the Tigers defense put a runner on board. With the score 3-2 and bases loaded, Blair Portnoy fell into an 0-2 hole and then sprayed a blooper to short right-field for a game-winning 2-run single.

On Wednesday, the Dawgs pulled out to a 5-4 lead after 3 innings on a 2-run single by Shaul Daya and a 2-run triple by Shmuel Goldstein. However, the Cerveceros bats broke it open with a big 9-run fourth off of Daya. Ozias Kaim tied the game with a solo home run and then Climmy Reynolds" 2-run double put them in the lead for good while pitcher Yehezkel Ganz settled down to throw 3 shutout innings. Red-hot Alberto Tascher homered for the second game in a row and added 2 more hits and 3 RBI"s while scoring 4 times to lead the Cerveceros offense. David Sommer was a perfect 3-3 for the winless Dawgs.

On Monday, the Galil Twisters earned their second win in a row after losing their first 19 games to Dimona. The Northerners" young tandem of pitching phenom, Kobi Daya, and shortstop Yaniv Rosenfeld were the story of the night. Daya was brilliant, fanning 5, walking 6 (2 intentional) and scattering 6 hits, while pitching out of 2 bases-loaded jams. Rosenfeld put on a hitting clinic, going 3-3 with a pair of doubles and 3 runs scored. The Twisters scored 2 in the first off of pitcher Yarone Ben Israel, but Dimona tied it in the second. Elyaeed Ben Israel started the second inning and the Twisters greeted him with a four-run rally capped by Eitan Milgram"s big 2-run double. Yarone returned in the third, but by then it was too late. Dimona tacked on a run in the sixth when Akaziah Ben Israel tripled and scored on Elyaeed"s sacrifice fly but Jeffrey Zitomer"s leaping catch in left-field stifled the rally.

On Tuesday, the Penticon bats came alive from the get-go, scoring 5 in the top of the first and never looking back. Ami Baran (5 strikeouts) lasted 4 innings and relief pitcher, Marc Bodner limited the ReMax-Ra"anana scoring to one rally. The Penticon defense behind their pitchers was stellar with right-fielder Ron Solomon making 4 running catches and third-baseman Netanel Levenson snagging a sharp line drive to squelch a Ra"anana uprising. Penticon was led by Howie Hirsch who was 4-5 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 6 RBI"s, and David Aron who was 5-6 with a home run, 3 runs and 3 RBI"s. Alain Serels had a 2-run single for ReMax.

Guy Bender legged out 2 home runs for the Tigers and Shlomi Mor Hayim, Joey Cohen and Gil Nehamkin each rapped 4 hits a piece for the potent Tigers offense, but the star of the night was Goose Gillett who struck out 6 and added a 3-3 night at the plate to support his own cause. For Beit Shemesh, Rafi Goldmeir had a pair of hits and 4 RBI"s and made 2 nice catches in centerfield and Lavey Freedman chimed in with 2 hits.

On Wednesday, the Cerveceros looked to be cruising to an easy victory, leading 13-3 in the third, as Yosi Ajzenwaser pitched well and the Tel Aviv team"s offense teed off on southpaw David Leichman. Coach Howie Litz, changed strategy, entering Alain Serels to pitch just as Ajzenwaser became ineffective due to an injury. Serels quieted the Latin Americans while his teammates mounted a come back, taking advantage of walks and errors, culminating in an 8-run sixth inning to knot the game at 15. In the seventh inning, using the tiebreaker rule in which each team begins the inning with a runner on second, the Cerverceros pushed across a run, setting the stage for heroics from Alon Leichman who raced home from second on a sacrifice bunt and then Ofir Katz"s whose sacrifice fly scored the winning run. ReMax only managed 7 singles, but Amit Megiddo and Katz each scored 3 times. Mario Rojas doubled and homered for the Cerveceros and Alberto Tascher scored 4 runs.

On Monday, Yarone Ben Israel fanned 6 in 6 innings to outduel Goose Gillet. Nativyah Ben Israel led the Dimona offense with a 3-3 night and Elinatan Ben Israel crushed an RBI triple. Gillet helped his own cause with a 2-run single and Shlomi Mor Hayim added and RBI double for the Tel Aviv team.

On Sunday, Ziontours jumped to an early lead with a six-run first and never looked back. Veteran Dave Epstein had a key 2-run single and Jeremy Shai and Blair Portnoy combined to keep the Beit Shemesh offense, that was led by Josh Alter (3-3 on the night), in check. Sholom Menorah pitched gallantly for Shimshon Hi Tech but was victimized by porous defense behind him.

Penticon would score again in the second, third and fifth to increase the lead to 9-2. A 2-run home run in the sixth by Aviv Yaakov of Ziontours cut the deficit but it was too little too late. On offense, Brian Aron was 4-4 for Penticon with 3 runs scored and Ron Solomon tripled and made a nifty catch of a sharp line-drive at shortstop to save a run. Ami Baran whiffed 7 while outdueling Ziontours" Blair Portnoy.

On Tuesday, the Twisters jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first on Eitan Milgram"s 2-run home run off of pitcher Jeremy Shai and led 5-2 after three and a half when pitcher Bill Arscott tired and the Twisters defense (7 errors)collapsed and Ziontours pushed across 6 with Blair Portnoy"s 2-run blast to right field capping the scoring. The Twisters staged their own comeback and retook the lead 11-8 with a 6-spot of their own on walks, errors and a pretty squeeze bunt by Itai Wisell. Wisell, who came in to pitch, couldn"t hold the lead, allowing 4 runs, 2 on a home run by Tom Haskell who had 3 hits, runs and RBI"s on the night. In the top of the sixth and last inning, the Twisters scratched out a run and then reentered Arscott to pitch but the Jerusalemites loaded the bases with no outs, setting the stage for Yossi Glickman"s game-winning single.

On Monday, ReMax surprised the Twisters by jumping out to an early 11-3 lead and then held off two furious comebacks for the win. Pitching was the story as Twister pitchers Kobi Daya and Yaniv Rosenfeld walked 13 and hit 2 while Ra"anana Alain Serels pitched effectively, striking out 3 and walking 4 and inducing key outs, including two in a row with the winning run at bat in the bottom of the last inning. For ReMax, Alon Leichman rocked two opposite field home runs, Ron Duhl tripled and drove in 3 and Howie Litz had a pair of hits and RBI"s. Tim Cummings was 3-3 with a pair of RBI"s for the Northerners and Rosenfeld cranked a 2-run home run over the center field fence.

Ari Shapiro had a homer, a triple, a single, and 2 walks, and 7 RBI"s and Stu Shrader reached base and scored 5 times, but his biggest contribution was behind the plate where called a great game, and threw out two would-be base stealers. Pitcher Shalom Menorah was solid, striking out 5 and walking 2 and allowing only 4 hits and no earned runs.

On Monday, in a rare father-son pitching matchup, the Twisters" 16 year old pitcher Kobi Daya scattered 3 hits in 4 innings, while striking out 4, walking 1 and allowing 1 unearned run to best father Shaul who yielded 5 home runs, including 3 by Yaniv Rosenfeld. The Twisters scored 12 in the fourth and led 19-1 before the Dawgs added 5 runs in each of the last 2 innings off of relief pitchers. Rosenfeld finished 4-4 with 6 RBI"s and a team record 3 home runs, 2 of which cleared the fence. Tomer Molovinsky added 4 hits, missing the cycle by a triple and driving in 5 runs and Micah Winston hit a 2-run homer. Right fielder Jeffrey Zitomer made a beautiful diving catch to stifle a Dawgs rally. For the Shfela team, Maor Mama and Shmuel Goldstein each had a pair of hits and Daniel Baram drove in 3 and made a fine diving stop at third base.

On Sunday, the Tigers edged the Brewers 7-6 in an extra-inning cliffhanger. Tiger pitcher Goose Gillett kept the game close after surrendering two runs on a pair of triples by Alberto Tascher and Mario Rojas in the first inning. The Tigers came right back to take the lead on a run-scoring base hit by Shlomi Mor Hayim and two-run single by Joey Cohen. Yoram Goldmark later added an RBI single, and Mendie Pinchovski knocked in two more runs with a two-out line drive to center. The Brewers tied the score at six as the game exceeded the time limit. In accordance with the tie-breaker rule, the Brewers started off the last inning with a runner on second, but couldn"t score, due to fantastic Tiger defense: catcher Mike Williams" right-on-the-money assist to third base, his second of the game, and Mor Hayim"s fine defensive play to keep a line shot from going through to rightfield with two outs and the go-ahead run on third. The game ended in errant fashion in the bottom of the frame when an infield grounder off Goldmark"s bat turned into a Cerveceros throwing error to score the winning run from second. Yehezkel Ganz pitched effectively for the Cerveceros in his season debut.

On Tuesday, the Tigers made it three straight in a 16-6 route of Ziontours, staging a 22-hit ambush of Jerusalem pitcher Blair Portnoy. Shlomi Mor Hayim clubbed 3 singles, a triple and and 3 RBI"s, Mike Williams and Gilad Lazar each knocked in a pair of runs and Guy Bender scored 3 runs. Leftfielder Joey Cohen"s fine running catch of a fly ball to the fence with runners in scoring position that could have put ZT back in the game in the third inning and Tiger hurler Goose Gillett silenced Ziontours" usually volatile bats the rest of the way.

On Sunday, Penticon got a scare in the bottom of the first when the Pool A newcomers, the Cerveceros, scored three runs off an RBI single by Mario Rojas, a double by Bali Bali and untimely errors. However, Ami Baran, who whiffed seven, and the Penticon defense, settled down. Meanwhile, down 3-0 in the third, the Penticon offense was having trouble hitting pitcher Yosi Ajzenwaser but turned the tide by playing some small ball. Bunts by Sam Goldberg and David Fleightman took the Brewer defense by surprise, and a triple by Mark Mayerfeld started the scoring in a game-turning 6-run fourth. Penticon later took advantage of the change in pitching to make the game lopsided. For Penticon, Sam Goldberg was 3-5.

On Monday, the Pool A Tigers pounced all over their Pool B opponents, the Dawgs in a 21-5, five inning laugher. The Tigers line-up rocked Dawgs pitching for 21 hits and 10 extra bases. Rookie right fielder Joey Cohen and hit a home run over the centerfield fence while knocking in four runs, and Eran Kedar delivered an inside-the-park homer. Tigers hurler Goose Gillett kept the Dawgs in the kennel, without allowing a run or a hit over the first three frames.

Twister pitcher Kobi Daya struck out two in the first inning but allowed a 2-run single to Sholom Menorah. Down 10-3 in the second, Beit Shemesh catcher Mendy Newman injured his knee chasing a wild pitch and had to leave the game. As Beit Shemesh had no substitutes, the game was deemed a forfeit.
Beit Shemesh Fireballs 12 JWNT 5
On Thursday, the Beit Shemesh Fireballs won the opening game of the softball season, beating the Junior Women National Team 12-5. Walks plagued both sides, but timely strikeouts by pitchers Cheryl Kostantyn of Beit Shemesh and AIisson Aronovic kept innings from getting out of hand. The big hitter for the evening for the Fireballs was first baseman Monica Drori, with three hits, four RBI"s and two runs scored.
